Ângela Santos

Ângela Santos is a PhD student at the Department of Conservation and Restoration and VICARTE Research Unit of NOVA University of Lisbon. She has both Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Conservation and Restoration with a specialisation in stained-glass and stained-glass painting materials (namely the sanguine paint). Her research has been focused on the materials’ analytical characterisation, their preservation, and the study of history and techniques of artistic productions, in particular painted glass materials, including stained-glass and, more recently, painted magic lantern glass slides. She was awarded the 2018 Oldfield Award (2nd place) by the Society of Glass Technology for her Master thesis project, "Sanguine Paint: Production, Characterisation, and Adhesion to the Glass Substrate", and in 2019 the work developed in her PhD project "Lanterna Magica - Technology and Preservation of Painted Glass Slides for Projection with Magic Lanterns" received a Mervyn Heard Special Commendation Award by The Magic Lantern Society (UK).
