Vanessa Otero is a Junior Researcher at LAQV-REQUIMTE R&D unit and the Department of Conservation and Restoration at FCT NOVA, contract awarded in the 2020 competitive FCT Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus (3rd place). She is also a collaborative researcher at VICARTE R&D unit. Her research crosses the disciplinary boundaries of technical art history and conservation science, aiming to increase knowledge on artists' materials by combining the study of their historical production, colour stability and analytical characterisation, ultimately adding to better conservation and authentication procedures. She completed her PhD in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (specialisation in Conservation Science) at FCT NOVA in 2018, holding a BSc in Chemistry and an MSc in Conservation Science. Currently, she is the PI responsible for the research collaboration between DCR NOVA and W&N COLART Ltd. She is co-responsible for the DCR's analytical infrastructure and its financial management. She also coordinates the authentication services of artworks by the Portuguese Modern painter Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso (1887-1918). She has an h-index of 15 with 23 papers in peer-reviewed journals and >1000 citations (WoS & Scopus).
